Conclusions

Innovation is tough, and the excipients field is particularly tough. Competition is high and profit margins are low. But while the excipients producers we have profiled are experienced innovators, the industry itself is facing considerable challenges. Advances in pharmaceutical science and technology, both in-sector and beyond, are presenting exciting opportunities but a step-change in innovation is needed if companies are to remain at the cutting age of their games.
