Human serum albumin is a small, water-soluble globular protein (585 amino acids arranged in a single polypeptide chain, m.w 67 kDa). It is the most common protein in plasma, and plays an important role in maintaining oncotic pressure, plasma pH, and transportation of hormones. It is supplied in the form of an aqueous solution that may either be clear or almost clear, to amber coloured, depending on the presentation of the material. Occasionally, Albumin is available in solid state (powders or lumps).
