Glycerol (also called Glycerin) is a trihydroxy sugar alcohol. The multiple hydroxyl groups and carbon atoms make Glycerol a polyol with the IUPAC name of 1, 2, 3–Propanetriol. It is found in biological systems as an intermediate in lipid and carbohydrate metabolism. Glycerol is supplied as a clear, colourless, odourless, very viscous but hygroscopic liquid. It has a sweet taste, approximately 0.6 times as sweet as Sucrose.
