Alitame is a synthetic intense sweetener that was developed by Pfizer. It corresponds to l-α-aspartyl-N-(2,2,4,4-tetramethyl-3-thioethanyl)-d-alaninamide] making it an amino acid-based sweetener. It is approximately 2000 times sweeter than sucrose, 12 times sweeter than aspartame, and six times sweeter than saccharin.
