Sodium Lactate is Sodium 2-hydroxypropanoate, an organic sodium salt of lactic acid (chemical formula C3H5NaO3). It is a naturally-occurring substance although for practical reasons it is produced by the fermentation of sugars. Sodium lactate is supplied as a as a clear and colourless viscous liquid. It exhibits no perceptible odour although it has a saline taste.
