Shin-Etsu Chemical Co., Ltd. started out as a manufacturer of chemical fertilizer and limestone nitrogen in the 1920s. It is currently the largest chemical company in Japan, and ranked No. 9 in the world for chemical sector. Shin-Etsu has the largest global market share for polyvinyl chloride, semiconductor silicon, and photomask substrates. Shin-Etsu Chemical began producing pharmaceutical excipients in 1962, and are famous for cellulose-derived excipients.
